The Vaikkom Sathyagraha was started on 30 March
1924.
It was against untouchability and for the right to
use the road before the Vaikkom temple by untouchables.
T.K. Madhavan, K.P. Keshavamenon etc were the
major leaders.
Supporting the Sathyagraha a ‘Savarnajatha (March
of upper castes) was led by Mannath Padmanabhan
from Vaikkom to Thiruvananthapuram.
The Sathyagraha ended on 23 November 1925.
Gandhiji visited Kerala for the Second time related
to the Sathyagraha.
The Sathyagraha lasted for 20 months.
The approach roads to the temple were formally
opened to all Hindus, irrespective of caste.
The proclamation of 1853 June 24 was a milestone in
Emancipation of slavery.
